Prisoners Writer Aaron Guzikowski To Pen Screenplay For Death Stranding Mature Animated Film

The momentum of Kojima Productions is in full swing for 2025. Already, it was confirmed that its next release, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, is to launch later this June. However, that is not the only thing for the game that is coming. Sharing its June 26th release, a limited-time DualSense controller themed after the title is to also arrive then as well.

For the greater universe, there is more on the way for Death Stranding. Previously, founder Hideo Kojima announced a live-action film adaptation is underway in partnership with A24 to produce. Additionally, it was revealed in April 2025 that A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski is to also take the helm for this new video game film.

However, there is more on the table. In late May, Kojima told Vogue Japan that an animated film is also in the works. “I aim to create a Death Stranding that can only be realized through film, one that could win awards at festivals like the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival. In fact, we are also currently working on an anime adaptation.” Now Deadline sheds new details on the animation project.

The outlet reports that Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners, Raised by Wolves) is to sign on to pen the screenplay for the new animated film. “Drawing and animation have always been near and dear to my heart, so to finally get to play in this space is a dream come true,” Guzikowski said in a statement to Deadline.

“I love the world of Death Stranding, it’s so creatively freeing, so beautifully dark and yet hopeful; I’m so excited and honored that Hideo Kojima, whose work I’ve long admired, has invited me to dwell within his creation, to birth new stories into this fertile, mind-bending universe,” he added.
