It was announced today that a group of former Guitar Hero and DJ Hero developers teamed up to fund a new studio, RedOctane Games. This studio will focus solely on the rhythm game genre with production already underway on its debut rhythm-based game, which will be announced this year.
Simon Ebejer will head RedOctane Games, who was previously the Production Director on several Guitar Hero titles at Neversoft. The development team includes developers who helped create Guitar Hero and DJ Hero almost twenty years ago.
Joining the advisory board are Charles and Kai Huang, who were the original founders of the Guitar Hero franchise.
“Rhythm games are about more than just gameplay they’re about feel, flow, and connection to the music and to each other,” said Simon Ebejer, Head of Studio. “RedOctane Games is our way of giving back to a genre that means so much to us, while pushing it forward in new and exciting directions.”
Their first game wouldn’t be a direct sequel to the Guitar Hero series, it sounds like. However, it’s reported that their new game will include a Guitar.
This generation has been lacking rhythm-based games, with Fortnite Festival being the only one where a guitar can be used in gameplay. While it won’t be a Guitar Hero game, we can expect some similarities given the development leaders behind the studio.
