The PlayStation platform is in a new era. With the PlayStation 5 already exceeding more than 80 million units, Sony is looking ahead and this means beyond consoles. According to senior vice president Sadahiko Hayakawa, the new trajectory is for cohesion as a platform rather than just a living room system. And this also goes alongside its live-service plans too.
At the same time, it was addressed that its live-service efforts are to remain despite recent downfalls like Concord. This even dismantled ongoing rumors for the closure of Marathon after being delayed earlier this year to 2026. Part of the efforts for a larger reach to a wider audience is Helldivers 2. It released in August and was met with record engagement since the move was made for multiplatform.
Now on PC, a platform that PlayStation has been settling into comfortably for years now, it is receiving new support from Sony Interactive Entertainment. This week, PlayStation is to roll out a new ‘PlayStation Link PC Driver’ that will enable support for its console peripherals. Already, PlayStation released its own adapter for the PlayStation VR 2 and now devices like its Pulse headphones & earbuds will be able to pair to PC.
“The PlayStation Link PC Driver lets you update your PS Link devices and adjust their audio settings without a PlayStation5 console. The PS Link Driver is different from the app, PlayStation Accessories. The PS Link Driver supports PS Link devices, which run on PlayStation Link wireless technology. PlayStation Accessories supports non-PS Link devices, such as the DualSense wireless controller and DualSense Edge wireless controller,” the support page reads.
And this is not the first time that peripherals & accessories were opened to platforms. In the past we saw this with the Nintendo Switch. Back in 2021, patchwork was rolled out which enabled support for Bluetooth devices to be linked to the device. You can read the full report by heading here.
