Sonic the Hedgehog has continued to maintain a busy year for 2025. For the majority of the months, Sega’s blue mascot has crossover in multiple mediums. One of the biggest reveals was the DC Comics partnership. In that, a five-series run would crossover Sonic & his friends with the Justice League. Sonic the Hedgehog also received his own line of Magic the Gathering cards as well earlier this summer.
Additionally, there was Sonic the Hedgehog content that shipped for one popular hyper sports title – Rocket League. For Season 20, there are new themed cosmetics & items based on the blue blur. And that is just this year. In the latest arrangement with the International Olympic Committee for new branding featuring the character for the 2026 Olympics.
Now with all things considered, what else is there? Well taking notes from what Halo did years before, Sega & Waze announce a new partnership that paints the navigation app with inspiration from Sonic the Hedgehog. “Get ready to feel unstoppable because Sonic the Hedgehog is taking you on the drive of a lifetime with Waze! Starting today, you can select SEGA’s iconic character, Sonic the Hedgehog, as your personal hype man on the road,” the press release reads.
“Sonic is cool, speedy and unbeatable, an ace combination for a travel companion who’s on the lookout for new adventures. He’ll guide you with phrases like, ‘All right! Let’s roll! Keep your eyes on the road. Never know when a loop-de-loop or spike trap will be in the way!’ Choose the ‘Energetic’ mood (how you appear on the Waze map) to add extra Sonic personality, and ‘Speedster Lightning’ from SEGA’s newest racing game, ‘Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds,’ as your custom vehicle to join Sonic on a full-throttle adventure.”
What is more interesting about the new collaboration is that Sega went the lengths to also use current voice actor Roger Craig Smith for this new feature. Smith on X confirms his voice will be in the app from this announcement. “Hear me help you get where ya need to get…IN STYLE!”
