
Sega collaborations with Sonic the Hedgehog and other namesake properties has been extremely strong in 2025. One of the biggest earthquake announcements was the five-issue series that crossover Sonic’s cast of friends with DC Comics’ Justice League. Additionally, Wizards of the Coast featured a run of themed Magic the Gathering cards as well. Not to mention the recent addition of the character to the latest season of Rocket League just last month.
As for it prior arrangements, it did have a deal with Nintendo & The Olympics for its biannual released titles – Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. One report revealed that leadership decided to can the effort after its 2020 installment. New details revealed plans for other crossover characters including Zelda & Mega Man were being pursued. But it appears Sega managed to still include the Capcom mascot after all in Sonic Racing: Crossworlds in the end.
Now recently, Sega & The Olympics announced a new partnership for marketing and branding in celebration of the event. It was revealed through new artwork that Sonic the Hedgehog & The Olympic brand will be sharing the spotlight as part of the new arrangement.
“We’re committed to fostering respectful and inclusive communities across the globe at. Partnering with the International Olympic Committee allows us to bring those values to the forefront, especially with the Five Rings program, and celebrate the innovative and diverse spirit both of these brands promote,” Sega president Shunji Utsumi says.
International Olympic Committee deputy managing director Elizabeth Allaman adds: “The IOC is delighted to unite with SEGA for this exciting new chapter for the Olympic brand, embracing the power of storytelling and innovation to engage audiences globally. By combining the universally recognized Olympic rings with the beloved character of Sonic, we are creating fresh opportunities for fans of all ages to experience the spirit of sport and play in new and memorable ways.”
