Although conversations recently point towards new console hardware being withheld for a later street date, there are other reports that indicate things are still moving forward with the initial plans. In January, it was reported that the ongoing AI race across the globe are stripping any chances for manufacturers to push hardware at its intended dates. Both Xbox as well as PlayStation are to face notable delays internally to deliver adequate supply for the market.
But, there are other forces that still indicate momentum has maintained for certain companies. AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su recently stated that its plans to rollout its ‘semi-custom SoC’ in the next-generation Xbox is still fixed on a 2027 release. What could make things more tangible is that the Xbox firm previously fitted itself with a new Foxconn deal to stockpile on silicon with about 4 million devices aimed to ship in the coming years.
As for what else is on the radar for Project Magnus, Epic Games recently spoke on its plans for the new console. When talking to GameFile, Epic Games Store head Steve Allison told the publication plans are to ship the storefront on the new Microsoft system. Previously, the system has already been flagged to use Steam alongside other aggregated digital marketplaces for its open-end approach to consumes.
“We definitely plan to be on the new hardware for Xbox, because, unless their policy or stance on it changes, they are telling us they’re going to welcome that,” Allison told GameFile. “And we’re going be there, like, on day one. That will probably require us to build in whatever their requirements are, some sort of software to support that.”
Similarly, Windows Central has corroborated the report and further indicated that the open-focus initiative for the new Xbox also applies to OEMs for the console’s architecture. Digitally, players will have options where to buy their games. Physically, Microsoft is also partnering with firms like ASUS & other PC partners to diversify options for hardware with ranging prices for Magnus. You can read the full report by heading here.
