Pokemon Pokopia: Withered Wasteland Walkthrough

Learn how to progress in Withered Wasteland in Pokémon Pokopia with this detailed walkthrough. Pokémon Pokopia features multiple areas for the players to explore and complete objectives. Withered Wasteland is the starting region where Ditto wakes up and meets Professor Tangrowth. This region is damaged and has dry soil, ruined buildings, and very little life.

The area contains grass fields, caves, ruined structures, and Pokémon Center ruins. Pokémon teach special abilities your character can use to progress through the objectives. Withered Wasteland is a tutorial zone where you restore a destroyed Pokémon world.

Withered Wasteland Walkthrough

Wake up in a cave

Your adventure begins in the first main area called Withered Wasteland. You learn basic mechanics like crafting, befriending, and rebuilding from this region. The game requires you to craft the campfire at the workbench, unlock the Pokémon Center PC, and gain the Cut move. You also unlock the Rock Smash ability and find the Onix in the cave area. The objective is to free this Pokémon by completing Yawn Up a Storm! Request in Pokémon Pokopia.

Befriend Bulbasaur and Squirtle (Craft Campfire)

Customize your character based on your preference and speak with Professor Tangrowth. Follow him through the cliffs of Withered Wasteland. Once you cover some distance, you find the Squirtle after getting the steps.

Find the Squirtle

Speaking to him lets you learn the Water Gun ability, a crucial move. Press the ZR to spray water on the dead flowers, soil, and objects. Watering them helps you create a Tall Grass Habitat and a Flower Bed habitat. Squirtle becomes your friend and stays in the area.

Speak with Squirtle

After building the Tall Grass Habitat, Bulbasaur appears in front of you after a while. You need to inspect the moving grass when this habitat is active. Interact with this Pokémon and water 10 patches of dry tall grass by using the Water Gun.

Befried Bulbasaur

You will now befriend Bulbasaur after finishing this request. This Pokémon teaches you the Leafage move that lets you grow grass habitats. Make your way to the Workbench and use 1x Stick and 1x Stone to craft a Campfire. These materials are all scattered on the ground in this zone. These are the basic items that you mostly use in every starting recipe in Pokémon Pokopia.

Pokemon Center Ruins

Move back to Professor Tangrowth in the starting area, and you find a speech bubble above him. Speak with him and follow him through the wasteland paths to move in front of the abandoned building with broken walls and rubble. This structure is the Pokémon Center Ruins, and its PC is still working.

Pokemon Center Ruins

The objective is to rebuild the Pokémon Center in Withered Wasteland. You need to complete some early challenges like befriending 6 Pokémon, collecting 10x Sturdy Sticks, and watering 5x trees. Finishing these tasks allows you to gain Life Coins, which are used to purchase items from the shop.

Befriend Scyther (Cut Move)

After discovering the Pokémon Center Ruins in Pokémon Pokopia, you must find Scyther and befriend him to learn the Cut move. Explore the Withered Wasteland area and look for a large, lush tree. Use the Water gun on the tree if it’s withered. Scyther only appears in a tree-shaded habitat in this zone.

Tree-shaded tall grass habitat

The requirements of this habitat are 1x Large Tree and 4x patches of Tall Grass around the tree. Approach the tree and use the Leafage move to grow four tall grass tiles around the base to create a Tree-Shaded Tall Grass habitat.

Interact with Scyther

Wait for a short time till the required Pokémon appears and interact with it to get the request. Collect 2x Sturdy Sticks from the environment and bring them to Scyther to befriend him. Once you have befriended him, you get the opportunity to learn the Cut move.

Collect the required materials

Using this ability allows you to cut grass, trees, wood piles, and small logs. This Pokémon also has the Chop specialty that converts the small logs into Lumber.

Increase Comfort Level

Once you learn the Cut move from Scyther, the next objective is to increase the Comfort Level of your Pokémon. Increasing this level automatically increases the Environmental level, which unlocks new items and requests.

Hitmonchan's home

Interact with the Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Scyther and choose “How’s your comfort level?” Decorating their habitats is a reliable way to increase comfort in Pokémon Pokopia. You can use straw beds, toys, balloons, and more to decorate them.

Increase the comfort level

Moving Pokémon into a house or den increases comfort much faster. Craft a Leaf Den, bring a Pokémon inside, and decorate it. Completing requests like building a bed or habitats and collecting the materials also increases their comfort level. Giving Lumber, Logs, and their favorite food also increases their comfort.

Befriend Hitmonchan and Unlock Rock Smash

Find the Punching Bag while exploring the zone and pick it up to add it to your inventory. You can use this item to build Hitmonchan’s habitat near the seat. Find the bench near the Pokémon Center ruins and place the Punching Bag next to the bench to build the Exercise Resting Spot habitat.

Befriend Hitmonchan

This Pokemom appears after a while and starts training. Approach the Hitmonchan and interact with him to get his request. The Pokémon asks you to bring 2x Stones to him from the ground around the wasteland. Giving him the required material allows you to complete his request and befriend him.

Unlock Rock Smash

You learn the Rock Smash move from him, which lets you break rocks, dirt blocks, and obstacles. Make sure to equip this move from your ability list to use it. Point towards the rocks or blocks and press the ZR to punch them to destroy them.

Find Onix and Slowpoke

Find Onix in a cave

The next main objective is to find Slowpoke and rescue Onix in Withered Wasteland. Make your way west from the Pokémon Center ruins and continue following the shoreline path. Once you come across the rocks blocking the path, use the Rock Smash move to clear the path.

Speak with Onix

Keep moving north until you reach a cave near the beach. You can find the Onix trapped behind very hard rocks inside this cave. Approach this Pokemona and speak with it through the gap. You can’t free him using the Rock Smash right now.

Find Slowpoke

Return to Professor Tangrowth after finding Onix to get the Yawn Up a Storm Important Request in Withered Wasteland. The objective is to find Slowpoke, who causes rain to soften the blocks trapping Onix. This Pokémon doesn’t appear automatically, requiring you to build a Seaside Tall Grass habitat.

Finding Slowpoke

You need to get 4x Tall Grass patches next to the beach or ocean. The beach area is located near the cave, so go there and use Leafage to create four tall grass tiles near the water. Doing so lets you build the Seaside Tall Grass habitat. Wait for a short time till the Slowpoke appears here.

Complete Objectives For Yawn Up a Storm! Request

Interact with this new Pokémon to accept his request in Pokémon Pokopia. Bring the Slowpoke to the Pokémon Center ruins first. Keep clearing the path while moving there, as the Slowpoke moves slowly. I recommend using Water Gun on dry grass or dirt and Rock Smash for clearing rocks and rubble.

Slowpoke in the Pokémon Center Ruins

Slowpoke also teaches you the Wooden Steps recipe when you first interact with him. Crafting this recipe is essential to make it easier for the Slowpoke to climb the upper blocks. Make sure to gather the required materials for it and craft it at the workbench.

Interact with Bulbasaur

Use 2x Castform Weather Charms, 1x Plate, and 1x Leppa Berry to create a Rain Dance Site. Make sure to purchase Horsea Fountain and place it in small ponds. Place Wooden Steps for high ledges and speak with Professor Tangrowth after reaching the Pokémon Center.

Increase the humidity

The objective is to increase the humidity of the area using the Water Gun. The rainfall across the Wasteland gets triggered when Slowpoke performs a 100-point yawn. After the rain starts, move back to the cave area and approach the trapped Onix. The rocks are now soft due to the rain, allowing you to use Rock Smash to destroy them.

Free the Onix

Free Onix from the cave and speak with it to create a Smooth Tall Grass habitat. Build its habitat using 1x Smooth Rock and 4x Dry Tall Grass in Pokémon Pokopia. Onix joins your settlement after building the habitat.

Rebuild the Pokémon Center

Make sure to increase the Environment Level to 3 before rebuilding the center in Pokémon Pokopia. Create more habitats, befriend more Pokémon, and boost the comfort level. Open the Shop from the PC terminal after reaching the required Environment Level.

Rebuild Pokemon Center

Use 1000 Life Coins to purchase the Pokémon Center Rebuilding Kit, allowing you to start the rebuild quest. You need to collect the following materials before building the Pokémon Center.

  • 20x Lumber
  • 20x Stone
  • 10x Leaves
  • 10x Vine Ropes

Use the Rock Smash to break the rocks for Stones and use Cut to collect wood and leaves. Make sure to bring the following Pokémon to the Pokémon Center construction site.

Collecting required materials
  • Onix
  • Bulbasaur
  • Chamander
  • Squirtle
  • Bellsprout
  • Scyther
  • Slowpoke
  • Timburr
Start the construction

After getting all the required materials and Pokémon, start rebuilding the center. The construction continues the next in-game day. Once finished, go back to the Pokémon Center and talk to the Pokémon near the entrance. After rebuilding, you unlock features like the healing machine and trading with Pokémon. You also unlocked the gate for Rocky Ridges and Bleak Beach in Pokémon Pokopia. This concludes our Withered Wasteland walkthrough in Pokémon Pokopia.

Hi, I’m Ali. I started gaming with Max Payne, and it set the tone for my interest in darker, more immersive experiences. I mostly play soulslikes, RPGs, and FPS titles that focus on tight mechanics and pacing.

I have a strong appreciation for game soundtracks and how they shape the overall experience. I’m also a long-time horror fan, across both games and films, with a preference for atmosphere-driven storytelling. This space reflects that passion, exploring games through both their mechanics and the atmosphere they create.
