Years ago during running on the fumes of Psychonauts 2, new details emerged on a new IP from Double Fine Productions – Kiln. A pottery-centered, multiplayer experience. It would be a project unlike what the team has shipped previously. At Xbox Developer_Direct recently in January, Kiln received a proper announcement then.

Move ahead into March, Kiln was met with an official release date scheduled for April 23rd to come the month following. During PAX East just over a week ago, Rectify Gaming got a hands-on demo with Kiln and was surprised by what the new title is to offer. “Kiln has a lot of potential beyond just the ceramic glaze on this pottery-based multiplayer brawler,” we wrote.

Now this week, Kiln will be launching its open beta for the approaching release. Already, closed playtesting has been unfolding behind closed doors for the past few weeks already. Now starting Thursday April 9th, the open server test will be available on Steam well into the weekend. On PC, you will be able to try out Kiln until April 11th.

“Get ready to leap into the flames of battle, claymates! […] Whether you’re a Kiln pro (shoutout to our Action Insiders ❤️) or ready to get your hands on some virtual clay for the first time, run, don’t walk to our Steam page,” the team encourages. “While there, click ‘Join the Playtest’ (and invite up to three of your friends to join you), to make sure that you’re automatically added to the Beta once it starts.”

Double Fine Productions added: “For those who participated in our Closed Beta: you aren’t automatically added to the beta, you need to join the playtest!” Gathered from the post, the Open Beta Throwdown does not appear to feature any additional content from what was featured in the previously-held closed testing for Kiln.
