For roughly a handful of years, developer Quantic Dream has been on a journey towards self-sufficiency. After shipping multiple titles through partnerships with PlayStation, the firm in 2022 established an acquisition by NetEase to strive towards new IPs on its own terms. One title that is still underway is Star Wars Eclipse: reportedly, it is set to release sometime in 2026.

Originally, the game was announced back at The Game Awards in 2021, so the wait for the new title has been lengthy. Recently, Quantic Dream did issue an update on its development efforts. The Lucasfilms Games partnership was said to be progressing smoothly at the game studio. Additionally, it was also revealed that the team was approaching a new live-service project as well – Spellcasters Chronicles on PC.

And while the game did arrived officially in February earlier this winter, the game is already meeting its demise. Recently, Quantic Dream has announced that the game is to officially shut down next month in June. The team did reassure that development on Star Wars Eclipse will not be affected by this decision to shutter the title.

“With this project, our teams set out to explore new creative territories and create a bold, original multiplayer experience. Spellcasters Chronicles allowed us to experiment with new concepts and bring to life an ambitious game shaped by the talent, creativity, and dedication of everyone involved. However, in today’s particularly challenging market environment, the game has not reached the audience needed to ensure its long-term sustainability. We have therefore made the difficult decision to refocus our efforts on our other projects.

“As part of this decision, the studio will undertake an internal reorganization. We are fully committed to handling this transition with fairness, care, and respect, and will prioritize internal reassignments wherever possible to support our other productions,” the team writes. “Spellcasters Chronicles will remain accessible online until June 19, 2026, when the servers will be shut down. All amounts spent during Early Access will be eligible for a full refund upon request. “

Are you surprised with how short the lifespan for Spellcasters Chronicles was?

Spellcasters Chronicles is still available on PC.
