The story behind Dragon’s Dogma 2 is triumphant as well as saddening. In 2022, the game was officially announced roughly a decade after the first entry and would be developed with the new RE Engine that was used for the Resident Evil remakes & Devil May Cry 5. By October 2024, Dragon’s Dogma 2 officially launched on all major platforms.
Within the first month of release, it did reach a milestone: Dragon’s Dogma 2 shipped over 2.5 million units. This was exciting understanding that the game is still in its infancy as a franchise compared to other Capcom IPs. However, there was a shocking announcement that came later that year. Game director Hideki Itsuno would announce his departure from the company months following the game’s release.
Now in 2026 at the latest Nintendo Direct, Capcom announced that Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this October. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:
“In this expanded version of Dragon’s Dogma 2, embark on a single-player action-fantasy RPG to slay the Dragon who has taken your heart. As the Arisen, you will take down hostile barbarians, legendary enemies and giant monsters that each require strategic planning and techniques,” the press release description reads.
“Choose from different vocations and weapons as you traverse through the lands with your Pawns, otherworldly companions who will aid you on your destined mission. New to this version, explore the land of Norgan, a pale and icy region with rare and powerful spoils which can be discovered through exploration and retrieved by battling ferocious monsters that are beyond human comprehension.”
