Dying Light: The Beast Last Gen Ports Offcially Canceled

One of the biggest surprises last year was that Techland would be returning with a new release for its Dying Light franchise so sudden. Only a few years after Dying Light 2: Become Human, it would ship a new standalone with original protagonist – Kyle Crane – to star in it. According to franchise director Tymon Smektała, the spin-off would stand as the unofficial Dying Light 3 for many at the team.

The Polish game studio shipped it later in September 2025 for XBOX, PlayStation, and PC. Additionally, the developer jumped right into it post-launch support for the game. In October, New Game+ officially rolled out for Dying Light: The Beast delivering the mode alongside Legend Levels which truly offers depth to the title’s end-game that was introduces new progression beyond the base skill tree.

Techland recently offered an update on Dying Light: The Beast. The game studio disclosed that after ongoing efforts to deliver on its promise for a last-generation XBOX One & PlayStation 4 porting of the game, it has suspended further development indefinitely.

“As development progressed, it became clear that bringing the game to those platforms would require compromises that would prevent us from delivering the experience we set out to create,” the letterhead reveals. “We know many of you were looking forward to playing on PS4 or Xbox One, and we are truly sorry for the disappointment this causes. Anyone who was expecting to play on either platform will be eligible for a refund.”

For those that have yet to jump into Dying Light: The Beast, Techland did launch a new ‘Retouched Update’ for the game which injected a graphical overhaul to the 2015 release as well as incorporating some bridging content for those planning to get the new game.
