When it comes to Nintendo’s online service it has been confusing loads of fans. One being that you’ll apparently need a mobile app to connect to lobbies and talk with friends which we reported on a bit ago. Recently, Capcom have released this big page on their site for Ultra Street Fighter II and one part included Network Battle.
When they talk about internet matchup they stated:
“You can connect to the Internet and enjoy “rank match” “casual match”. In “Rank Match”, “Player Point (PP)” and “Battle Point (BP)” increase or decrease according to the outcome. “Casual matches” can fight easily without being influenced by points.”
Quick match:  Search for players that can fight without setting conditions.·
Custom match: Set conditions and look for your favorite battle player.·
Create match:  Create a lobby that sets rules of battle for yourself, and wait for your favorite battle players to participate.·
Friend match:      Look for currently playable players from the registered friends.
※ Friend registration is a function of Switch body.
Not one time did they mention use the mobile app to connect online. The mobile app could be needed for certain games and it doesn’t look like it would be necessary for Ultra Street Fighter II.
