With any Bethesda game many think of Fallout or The Elder Scrolls almost immediately. One of the starred features for the mentioned titles is the endless list of mods that change how we see the base game. As mod support have arrived to consoles with Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, it’s almost assumed we could expect seeing it for the approaching Fallout 76.

According to a recent interview with GameSpot, Bethesda Vice President Pete Hines discusses with the videogame outlet on mods and how it will work for the November released title.

Hines was direct to state that mod support will be available only on private servers for 76. Adding on that mods will never reach the public online servers for the game. “Mod support is going to be tied to work that we’re also doing on private servers, and letting people do private servers. Mods will be a thing that run on private servers”.

To create a fair environment for fans when playing in the West Virginia wastes, it makes sense to restrict mods to separate servers. Hines explains this by stating:

“I don’t foresee a universe in which we allow players to come in [to Fallout 76’s public servers] with their own unique and different mods. If you want to run mods, they’ll have to be done on a private server,” Hines told GameSpot. “You’ll be deciding what sort of mods you’re including and running, and everyone playing on that server is playing with those mods.”

As of right now, the mod support discussed for the game will be coming first to PC. It wasn’t mentioned when we will see the feature on Sony or Microsoft’s platforms. With crossplay possibly being in the works on top of mods, it’s unsure what we might see first if anything.

Fallout 76 was announced to launch on November 14, 2018 for Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4.
