AGCOM, Italian antitrust, have issued a 2 million euro fine to Sony for supposedly misleading consumers about PlayStation Plus and their online multiplayer. In the companies point of view, they feel Sony hasn’t emphasized the additional costs to play online which is PS Plus which is needed for a title like Black Ops 4 that features multiplayer among many other games.
Here is what the report said from ResetEra:
The Authority’s investigation pointed out that, as stated in the weekly bulletin, the manufacturer has put in place a conduct “likely to mislead consumers” due to the “lack of information” provided both on the packaging of the PlayStation 4 and during the process of buying video games through Playstation Store “in order to a relevant element of the characteristics of the products, concerning the need to have to underwrite a paid subscription to use the console and video games in multiplayer online mode”.
This amount of euros might seem like a lot to people, but for Sony that isn’t much and this is a little surprising that they would lack information on the packaging of their console and on the PlayStation Store. Moving forward the company will more than likely be careful and pay close attention when putting out their new console in the future and of course games coming out this year and so on.
