In less than one week players will be met with yet another installment for the Call of Duty franchise, and with Infinity Ward’s project rebirthing the fan-favorite Modern Warfare series, fans share their excitement throughout the internet. Ranging from reimagining the gameplay formula to the extended amount of content for the title, players this year have showed the approaching game more attention than we would have thought a year ago.
However, Activision shared that this new project would be ranked different from previous as the publisher announced that Modern Warfare would be the first game in a decade to release new content seamlessly for all supported platforms, disregarding the marketing rights Activision holds with Sony Interactive Entertainment. And it looks that the company looks to pursue this new route as shown from the latest announcement from Activision.
According to a recent blog post on the publisher’s website, Activision discloses that the previously adopted supply drop loot boxes will be swapped with a battle pass content structure instead for this Friday’s game. Here’s how this battle pass will work as stated by Activision:
The new Battle Pass system will allow players to see the content that they are earning or buying. Battle Passes will launch timed to new, post-launch live seasons, so you can unlock cool new Modern Warfare-themed content that matches each season.
Dissecting this announcement even more, the publisher highlights that players will have more freedom on how they earn in-game items now that supply drops are out of the picture with this newly introduced battle pass. Sharing that content like weapons and attachments can be earned through progressing in-game; COD points will also be rewarded by playing as well. More importantly, this new system only offers differing cosmetic items that does not alter the outcome of the experience, Activision says.
Activision reveals that there are two different tiers for unlocking in-game items: Free and Premium. Easy to guess, those who play without purchasing the battle pass will unlock a set of respected items. As for the Premium branch, those who shed some coin will receive exclusive items for playing the game.
Are you settled with this new change for Call of Duty?
