NPD: Call Of Duty Dominates The 2010s As Nearly A Dozen Titles Rank The Top 20 Best Selling

It is no news that this latest installment in the Call of Duty annual release cycle that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was a commercial success as it was reported last year that the game virtually overnight becoming the most selling title in 2019. However, the reputation can also be applied to the entirety of the series for this past generation and even prior installments on last generation hardware as Call of Duty has been ranked one of the most selling franchises of the 2010s.

According to a new report coming from the NPD Group, ten different titles in the Call of Duty series have been mentioned in the top 20 best-selling titles in the past decade. In contrast to the first decade of the new millennium, Activision has truly dominated the market this time around.

In total, Activision is actually accounted for eleven games including Bungie’s Destiny which also made it onto the list. All Call of Duty titles listed are the following in order of release: Black Ops, Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops II, Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, Black Ops III, Infinite Warfare, World War II, Black Ops IV, and Modern Warfare.

Whilst the Call of Duty series tops the best-sellers charts, Rockstar Games still emerges to be the most successful with Grand Theft Auto V as the title is ranked the most profitable software distributed by the company. Followed by Red Dead Redemption Ii which also makes it into the top ten placing at 7th, ranking higher than half of the Call of Duty titles that made it onto the list.

Interesting enough, Mojang’s Minecraft also managed to take 10th on the list despite not being an AAA title. The game for the majority of its existence have cemented its sale price roughly between $20-$30, but not to a full retail price as you would associate with the remaining games listed.
