It is no mystery how the market is currently stacking when it compares that latest Battlefield & Call of Duty games releasing later this fall. In one corner, Battlefield 6 is a culmination of everything players wanted from the franchise after the past few poor releases from DICE. And, on the other is the overwelcomed comfort of Activision with the series still releasing annually and still the reigning leader for war first-person shooters.
However, the proper announcement for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 appears to be a wakeup call for many players. From the glimpse of the game’s story mode trailer was enough for many to loudly announce their commitment to Battlefield 6 later this October. And, the recently held open beta also speaks for the fans as well. At one point, Battlefield 6’s public playtest was met with 500,000 concurrent players then.
And despite the confirmation of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 being available day & date on Xbox Game Pass, many want to see more changes before jumping into the newest entry. One is the current image upheld by Activision when playing multiplayer. The amount of crossover skins has been a touted complaint by fans of the series. On X, Activision confirms skins will only carryover to Warzone and not directly Black Ops 7.
“Carry Forward Update: Operator skins and weapons from BO6 will no longer carry forward to BO7 (but still work in Warzone). XP Tokens & GobbleGums will continue carry over. […] Every match, every clip, every bit of feedback; you’ve shaped this franchise right alongside us,” Activision writes in the post in response to the internet outcry.
“We know there’s been a lot of conversation recently about the identity of Call of Duty. Some of you have said we’ve drifted from what made Call of Duty unique in the first place: immersive, intense, visceral and in many ways grounded. That feedback hits home, and we take it seriously.” Elsewhere recently, associate creative director Miles Leslie explained to IGN at Gamescom that the firm is listening to the community on the matter.
“We always try to make sure that we are trying to touch the widest audience. I’ve had the pleasure of working on Call of Duty now for almost 20 years, and we’re constantly looking at ways to push into different audiences and fans, and that’s what you saw with that; there are fans that really love it. […] We are trying to make sure that all fans feel represented in the game and figuring out that tight balance is something we’re paying attention to.” You can read the full report by heading here.
