Although Death Stranding is a recognized IP in the realm of video games, there is also a major initiative to adapt the universe into film/television. Previously, Hideo Kojima announced a live-action Death Stranding film is in the works with A24. Additionally, director Michael Sarnoski (A Quiet Place: Day One) would take on the mantle to direct the motion picture.
In the same realm, there is also an animated film on the way too. Prisoners writer Aaron Guzikowski this past June confirmed a mature animated movie is on the way with him attached to pen the screenplay. Other projects connected to Kojima includes his documentary ‘Connecting Worlds’ which aired on Disney+ last year in 2024.
This week now, Kojima Productions has announced a new animated series is on the way set in the Death Stranding universe. Revealing Death Stranding Isolations, it is a working title as part of the Disney+ Originals Preview held recently. Hideo Kojima is tasked as executive producer; Takayuki Sano in the director’s chair; Ilya Kuvshinov enlisted for the character design; and E&H Production to produce the series.
“Lonesome souls of the dead manifest in the physical world, reaching in search of the living. However, the connection they create triggers a massive explosion that eradicates anything of this world—a phenomenon referred to as the Death Stranding,” the synopsis provided reads. “These events wipe out nations as well as civilization itself. People who remain are now isolated, withdrawn, and without connections.”
It adds: “Somewhere in North America, just as Sam Bridges walks through the continent in order to save America, the someones are also trying to deal with their isolation in their own way. An old man trying to realize salvation through ways outside of the connection advocated by Bridges. A female warrior who tries to kickstart a world of constant fighting. A boy with a grudge against Bridges. A girl who embraces loneliness.”
