Coming from the reveal of Battlefield V‘s Battle Royale game mode, we were left with still not a lot on what to expect from their take on the genre. Now knowing the name of the mode, publisher EA filled us in on what is coming with the upcoming game mode in a recent post.
Firestorm for those who might not know, similar to Fortnite‘s storm, is a barrier of fire that encloses players as it continues to grow. Placing 16 teams of four, 64 players total, in the closing ring of fire. Said by the publisher that their upcoming Battle Royale will be more team focused as the mode will launch only with squads for the mode. Which is smaller than Call of Duty’s Blackout player count of 80 and significantly larger than Dying Light Bad Blood with a headcount of 12.
Though the genre’s top dogs Fortnite and PUBG support 100 players, Battlefield V is unique from the others by how squad play influences the game. Players must work against the continuous surrounding firewall along with the enemy teams out for first place. There will be Firestorm objectives to complete in the mode that will assist you and your squad to earning better weapons throughout the match. EA has confirmed that the objectives will be influenced from the franchise’s well known conquest game type.

Vehicles will be playing a big part in the upcoming Royale as developer DICE has stated that this is the largest map in the series’ history. Commanding vehicles will play a major part when enemies are hiding in structures while transport vehicles will assist squads in travelling the soon to be no mans land. As Battlefield V will have the upper hand on motor transport compared to Blackout’s four vehicles at launch, gameplay will vary greatly with the amount of options at hand.
With the recent delay of the game leading into November, don’t expect to see DICE’s interpretation of Battle Royale until deep into the Holiday season or even later in 2019.
Battlefield V will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 20, 2018.
