Developer Bohemia Interactive has announced this week that the studio responsible for DayZ, based in Bratislava, Slovakia, has been closed based on a “mutual decision between management and studio leads.” The game development team announced the closure of the studio in the nation’s capital city on Twitter yesterday.

While the announcement might show to be upsetting for fans at first glance, the developer shared on the game’s official Twitter account that “development is not closed,” only the team that was behind the game.

And although production of the game has been maintained despite the home studio being shut down, it was reported that about 40 employees at the team have been affected by the decision. In a response to Gamesindustry.biz, Bohemia Interactive tells that the decision was ultimately chosen by the start of the new decade and was planned to go into effect by the end of March.

However, it looks that the ongoing epidemic might have complicated things a little bit and the studio’s closure was extended a month for the team. “The decision was made at the beginning of this year with the plan to close the studio by the end of the March. We had to part ways because it makes sense for everyone.”

The news was already apparent for some team members as higher position developers had already exited the Bratislava team to go form Nine Rock Games, which was later acquired by THQ Nordic. Bohemia Interactive tells that remaining employees were offered positions at different teams through its global network in preparation for the studio’s demise this month.

Both Bohemia Interactive alongside DayZ has reaffirmed that the initial roadmad enlisted back in January will still go according to plan despite the home studio shutting down. The developer has shared to be inching off assistance towards efforts for DayZ since last year, and now the remaining development team behind the title is now based in Prague following the recent closure.

DayZ is out now for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
