For the ongoing passion train that is manned by Hideo Kojima, his self-named Kojima Productions so far has amassed a following with the Death Stranding IP so far. Of course, Kojima himself has pressed on entering other mediums as well. Previously, art director Yoji Shinkawa indicated efforts for a new, unnamed mecha anime could be pursued in the future.

Additionally, Kojima Productions itself earlier on in this winter announced the opening of its own television, film, and music division based in California. Howbeit, the first ambition that will be featured from this new division has yet to be shared. In recent announcements concerning Kojima Productions, he revealed a new project with Microsoft for Xbox Cloud Gaming is underway.

Then at The Game Awards this month, Death Stranding 2 was properly unveiled. In a new report from Deadline, Death Stranding is to be receiving a film adaptation with Hammerstone Studios producing.  Alex Lebovici (Barbarian, Bill & Ted Face The Music) is to produce the new production; Allan Ungar (Bandit, Gridlocked) is to executive produce.

We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation. Unlike other big budget tentpole video game adaptations, this will be something far more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This film will be an authentic “Hideo Kojima” production.

Alex Lebovici, Death Stranding Producer

“I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios. This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them in bringing Death Stranding to the big screen,” Kojima injects in a statement to Deadline. However, the most interesting detail is PlayStation Productions might not be involved despite Death Stranding being an owned property.

As for recent news on upcoming PlayStation Productions features, God of War got the green light at Amazon Prime Video. However, production has yet to fully commence with casting and crew yet to be enlisted for the new project. You can read the full report by heading here.
