It has been nearly a year now since the surprise reveal at the 2018 Microsoft press conference of Techland’s Dying Light 2, and since then the Poland-based developer has been keeping to themselves on the development of the upcoming title. This year’s Reboot Develop Blue event held in Croatia just passed last month and technology outlet WCCFTech spoke with Techland CTO Pawel Rohleder revolving around the anticipating sequel.

In the interview, Rohleder discussed the game’s capabilities with upcoming hardware, the newly rebranded C Engine used for the title, streaming’s role in rendering the game’s world, and even fancied upon the idea of Dying Light on the Nintendo Switch.

Expanding on the topic of Dying Light 2 playing on better hardware, Rohleder explained that implementation for Direct X 12 is already in effect which will increase optimization and provide better overall performance. Shifting the topic to the beefier Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro, Rohleder shares that there will be some noticeable differences compared to their standard models. But in contrast with higher-end PCs, the more powerful SKUs only meet the halfway mark between base models and PC.

At one point during the interview, Rohleder was asked about the chances of seeing the title come to Nintendo’s latest console: where he shared that because of the new engine, the title could not be supported on Nintendo’s platform. But reassures Switch owners that something could be on the way later in 2019.

“The engine does not support Nintendo Switch,” Rohleder told WCCFTech. “But I can tell you that we might have a surprise for the Nintendo Switch later this year. I can’t tell you more.”

Implying the possibility of a perhaps a port for the first title to come to Nintendo Switch? All will be known when the time comes for Techland to reveal the surprise the developer has planned for Nintendo’s hybrid console.

Dying Light 2 will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
