One of the biggest seller for Meta Quest in recent years is the expansion of its library. Alongside stringing together new & unique titles for its platform, legacy releases are also being adapted for virtual reality as well. One of the most effective sellers for its systems was a previous collaboration with Capcom.

That was Resident Evil 4. However, Meta was not done there when the game officially released. Around the same time as the game released, Meta in part of its rebrand from Facebook shared that a new beloved classic is arriving exclusively to virtual reality. In that, Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was to release for Meta Quest, it shared.

However, the likeliness of that is slimming immensely according to a recent statement. When pressed by IGN, a spokesperson for Meta issued that the Meta Quest version for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was “on hold indefinitely”. The outlet also uncovered YouTube responses to users shared “GTA: San Andreas is on hold indefinitely while we both focus on other projects” and “We look forward to working with our friends at Rockstar in the future.”

While it does not confirm that the project is canned for good, it does not cast good light on chances of seeing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas being realized for virtual reality. What does come as a surprised is that Meta did suggest future projects involving Rockstar Games could come. Perhaps a port for L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files?

What is confirmed to be coming from Rockstar Games in the near future is Grand Theft Auto VI. Announced back in November, parent company Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that the new tentpole release is aimed to launch sometime in fall 2025. You can read the full report by heading here.
