After years of waiting and ongoing delays, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl officially launched on Xbox & PC. While devoted fans were excited to return for a new entry from GSC Game World, there will be a new audience that the Ukranian game studio will be tapping into with the game launching on Xbox Game Pass also.
And as of the game’s launch in late November, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl did manage to meet one milestone – the anticipated sequel sold over one million units. And although the player count on console is not tracked, over on Steam Charts, it was revealed that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl concurrent player count was recorded with over 117,000 players at its peak.
Moving forward, GSC Game World has expressed more desire to explore the universe in other mediums. In an interview with Forbes, GSC Game World owner Maksym Krippa shares a desire to bring a Netflix series to fruition, similar to The Witcher.
“The Witcher is a national pride of Poles – there is a book, a game, a series on Netflix. Stalker 2 has the same perspective, only Ukrainian. I would like us to get a series on Netflix. Certain negotiations are currently underway, but the issue has not been resolved yet.” Noted the emphasis on comparing to The Witcher, Krippa is likely indicating a live-action adaptation for the TV show.
Exploring what the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series has done elsewhere recently, Legends of the Zone Trilogy arrived to Nintendo Switch in October. The collection includes games S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chornobyl, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat. You can read the full report by heading here.
