When it comes to the Halo franchise, it has been a hallmark IP that has now pushed beyond its home at Xbox. With the announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved, it also confirmed the first addition of a PlayStation release for the series too. During the reveal, Halo Studios shared that there will be co-op cross-play amongst all supported platforms.
As for the multiplayer portion, that does not cover matchmaking. Speaking to Windows Central, the developer shared it will still respect the legacy of Halo. “We’re trying to basically make something that stands kind of shoulder to shoulder with it, using new tools, new energy, to get a little bit of a fresh take on some things, but honoring the legacy.” And, that is likely to apply to the future games of this vein as well.
According to leaker @leaks_infinite, an accurate user in pre-released Halo Infinite details, has confirmed that the entire Halo trilogy is to be remade in Unreal Engine 5. The announcement of Campaign Evolved is just the precursor for what is to come according to the leaker with plans for the big three.
“No ETA on when these could be announced, same source that told me about the remake & it’s mechanics also told me Halo 2 & 3 were being remade to,” the leaker added. “It’s possible they’re using Halo Campaign Evolved to judge whether a Halo 2 & 3 remake would be viable, but this is just guessing.” So nothing is in stone, Halo Studios is considering to remake the other two Bungie titles seeing how influential Halo: Campaign Evolved becomes next year.
And, there are more than one title in the pipeline according to Halo Studios. When addressing the final stretch of DLC planned for Halo Infinite, the game studio revealed that “multiple” projects are being worked on internally atop of what has already been announced last month.
