Cling Grip Hollow Knight Silksong

Discover everything you need to know about unlocking Cling Grip ability in Hollow Knight Silksong, including some tips.

Cling Grip Hollow Knight Silksong

The Cling Grip or Wall Jump is the fourth major traversal ability in Hollow Knight Silksong. It makes general navigation much easier and is essential for accessing later areas of the game. This ability can be unlocked by interacting with the shrine in Shellwood.

Before accessing this area, you need to defeat the Moorwing boss. This is one of the toughest bosses to defeat, so make sure to unlock Swift Step and Drifter’s Cloak ability. Use Cling Grip for vertical traversal, jumping, and clinging to walls. In this guide, we’ll discuss how to get Cling Grip in Hollow Knight Silksong, along with some crucial steps to follow.

How To Get Cling Grip in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Get inside the Shellwood after defeating the Moorwing to unlock Cling Grip in Hollow Knight Silksong. Find the hidden shrine in this region to interact with it, allowing you to unlock this wall jump ability. This ability can be unlocked from the top area of Shellwood. Navigate through Greymoor and Bellhart to enter this region in the game. A wall jump is performed by pressing the jump button while clinging to a wall.

Deathrun Path

Start your journey further west from the Halfway Home. Doing so will bring you to a small arena, where you will need to defeat a few enemies. This is a relatively easy challenge, though. Continuing west, you will want to unlock a couple of shortcuts to save you time to get to the boss. Upon entering the tower structure, you will need to make your way up and past a few scissor-wielding bugs, as well as a spinning wheel.

Defeat Moorwing Boss

You can then move through the lower door of two to the west. Descend through this area and break open a shortcut along the way. Drop all the way down. Hit a lever to the east to open a major shortcut back this way, before moving further west.

Follow the signs pointing towards a town to reach the next major obstacle in our way. It is a very difficult boss, called the Moorwing. Defeat this boss to progress further in the game. After defeating this boss, you can move west into the Hunted Bellhart. Following a cutscene, you can sit down at the bench to rest.

Move Into Shellwood

You don’t yet have the map for Bellheart. However, just need to move west until reaching the next area, Shellwood. From there, you will need to move up and through this large chamber in a sort of S shape, going back and forth as we make our way up. Your goal is to eventually reach the top west exit. You will then need to drop down to the west to enter a boss chamber. There, you will have to fight off multiple waves of enemies.

The worst ones are the stickbugs, and I recommend storing up Silk to hit them with a couple of Silk Spears, which should dispatch them quickly. Once all waves have been defeated, you can move out to the west. After that, go up a series of platforms to reach a purchasable bench. This bench costs 60 Rosaries to permanently activate. However, it will serve as a checkpoint for two separate boss fights, so it is well worth the investment.

Acquire the Shellwood Map

Moving down and to the west of the bench, you can enter a new chamber and ride a lift all the way down. You can then move through the bottom west exit to reach a new chamber where Shakra is waiting. Both the maps for Bellhart and Shellwood are available for purchase. Ignore the signs pointing towards the bottom western exit. Instead, move up the nearby platforming section, nail-bouncing off the white flowers to ascend.

Your goal is to reach the top east exit out of this chamber. You will then move further up and east, going through the first exit you see. There is a side quest item at the top of this chamber, but continue moving east. You will go up and further east in the next chamber, then activate and use the lift that is near the top east exit. This lift will serve as a shortcut, bringing us directly to that bench we unlocked earlier.

Defeat Sister Splinter Boss

To reach the next major boss, Sister Splinter from the bench, you will ride the newly opened lift back up. After that, go through the eastern exit. Moving through this short platforming section will get you to the top west exit, which then leads directly to the boss chamber. Here, you will need to defeat Sister Splinter. The actual boss is not too difficult.

You just need to quickly destroy the splinters. This allows you to have enough room to maneuver and avoid her simple attack pattern, while getting in plenty of hits. The only thing that makes the fight tough is the ads she spawns. These are super dangerous and annoying to deal with. The best way to take them out is to hit them with silkspears or a couple of ranged offensive tools, assuming you have those at your disposal.

Unlock Cling Grip Ability

After defeating Sister Splinter, you can move further west. Drop down briefly before moving back up and towards the top west exit. In this next chamber, move further west, break through several vines, then needle-pogo your way up through a somewhat precarious platforming section. Your goal is to eventually reach the top east exit of this chamber.

This will bring us to a final chamber where you can interact with an altar to unlock the Cling Grip or wall jump ability for Hornet. With it, you can make your way up and to the east to enter a new chamber. There is a platforming section here that leads to a side-quest item, up and to the east.

However, if you just want to return to the previous bench, you can move straight east and exit via the hole in the ground. It is just a short walk back to the bench from here.
