Although the current atmosphere regarding this latest Call of Duty installment has been in glowing response from Infinity Ward, the developer spares new details that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 is not the last stop for the first-person shooter. Actually, the game looks to be striking support for the approaching next-generation consoles as well according to a recent interview.
Speaking with GamerGen yesterday, Infinity Ward Narrative Director Taylor Kurosaki sheds light on newer hardware to be expecting Modern Warfare as well, specifically Warzone.
I know that our plan is Warzone is going to be around for quite some time, so as soon as those new systems are out and available I’m sure we’ll support them.
During that segment as well, GamerGen also ponders around the possibility of seeing the game release for Google’s Stadia streaming platform as well. However, Kurosaki cuts short on any hope for players who are still waiting. “We’ve got no plan of porting it on Google Stadia at this time,” the developer shares in response. This definitely comes as a surprise as we already see strong partnership between Google and publisher Activision when the platform launch in November with Destiny 2 being a billboard game for interested users to pick up.
On the matters of base Modern Warfare – traditional matchmaking – neither Kurosaki nor Raven Software Creative Director Amos Hodge who was also interviewed by the outlet brushed upon the idea. Which is fairly surprising seeing how close we are to approaching the hardware, it would be expected the initial game to experience a next-gen port as well.
Expanding again on Kurosaki’s initial statement, how the developer worded support for the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 suggests that the respected Warzone releases would not arrive until after the hardware is commercially available.
This is not the first discussion for a next-generation release for current console software. Announced back in February, CDProjekt Red announced that the September-scheduled Cyberpunk 2077 would be receiving a next-generation release for Xbox Series X; granting Xbox One owners of the game a free upgrade. It has still yet to be determined if the same will be applied for PlayStation 4 users regarding the newest iteration.
Are you excited that Warzone will be transitioning to the newer consoles?
