When it comes to BioWare, it went ahead with shipping the next Dragon Age before fully embracing Mass Effect once again. After the launch of The Veilguard, the developer confirmed that story DLC will not ship as the team focuses resources into the next Mass Effect. According to one insider familiar, Mass Effect is still well far off with projections aiming at a 2029 release for the next installment.
But what could come sooner is a TV show. Predating back to 2022, reports pointed at a deal being established on a television series for Amazon Prime Video. However, there was radio silent for nearly three years since the initial reporting. In November 2024, it was officially confirmed that the TV show is officially in motion and will be releasing via Amazon Prime.
And this November commemorating N7 Day earlier this month, BioWare has pressed on the current workings for the Mass Effect TV series. Although details on when production or casting has not been revealed, the firm does confirm that it will tie directly into the canon of the original trilogy that starred Commander Shepard.
“I haven’t talked about it much, but you might have heard a little something about a TV series? We’ve been partnering closely with Amazon on it, and we’re really excited with what the talented team over there is coming up with. The writers room is going strong, and we’ve got a lot figured out about how it fits within the Mass Effect canon, and where it sits in respect to the new game,” executive producer Mike Gamble revealed.
“The show will explore a brand-new story within the universe’s timeline, and will be set after the original trilogy. It won’t be a retread of Commander Shepard’s story – because after all … that’s YOUR story, isn’t it?” Similarly, Amazon’s Fallout was met with the same fate being a connected story that takes place after the current games.
