In an article featured by VentureBeat, Matt Booty has been promoted to Vice President of Microsoft Studios.
For previously working as the global head for developing Minecraft, Booty will now oversee all games developed and published by Microsoft for console, PC and mobile. Booty’s former role will be taken by Helen Chiang, promoted from Operations Head over at Mojang. As Microsoft acquired Minecraft for $2.5 Billion back in 2014, Mojang is one of the many studios in development for the game.
With Booty operation to include games like Forza, Gears of War and Halo. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer said Booty will be in charge of creating budgets, deadlines and to ultimately expand operations as more resources from Microsoft is being put into their game business. Heads of each game of having to report to Booty like Bonnie Ross (Halo), Rod Ferguson (Gears Of War), Alan Hartman (Forza) and Craig Duncan (Rare) responded that they all prefer Matt Booty to take the role.
Now this might open the chances for Xbox to broaden their IPs or even create new ones as more and more fans feel it’s very needed. With Phil Spencer to focus on the future for the studio while Booty continues on what Spencer started. Recently with Fable returning seems to already looking bright for Microsoft as more IPs are already heading on their way.
