The current standing at Square Enix is certainly different from about a decade ago. While the publisher is still working ahead on the plans for its Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, the sentiment behind releasing on PlayStation has certainly changed. Most recently, the firm did address that it is satisfied with the launch of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but does not see more games releasing on the exclusive path anymore.
Not to mention the previous statement from developers at Square Enix on its relationship with Xbox. In that, it was told that the firm plans to “deepen” its current standing with the platform moving forward. Additionally, insiders have also mentioned that high-profile titles from Square Enix are on the way. Already, games Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, Trials of Mana, and Legend of Mana opened the bridge for more releases on Xbox.
Now according to known insider NatetheHate, plans are proceeding with Square Enix to release on Xbox fairly soon. Among his predictions for the approaching Xbox Developer_Direct, he says that Final Fantasy XVI, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are coming this year for certain. You can view the segment from the podcast below:
“Finally, Final Fantasy 16 will be announced for the platform and suspect it’s going to be very similar to what we have with Death Stranding; I think it will be a shadow drop,” he describes. “But, I think they’re going to go one step beyond. […] Following the announcement of Final Fantasy 16, we will see Square Enix confirm that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be coming to Xbox.”
NateTheHate then went on to further solidify that the titles are planned for Xbox. He elaborates that the firm is intending to release at least Final Fantasy VII Remake this year. Whilst the plan for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth comes the following year in 2026. The leaker goes on to note that the same plan is also applied for the upcoming Nintendo Switch successor as well. Whether that’s at launch or down the line – he says it’s happening.
Certainly, this does show to align with previous developments on the matter. In one interview, Final Fantasy XVI main director Hiroshi Takai entertains more platforms for the new release. Already, the game is out now for PC. You can read the full report by heading here.
