The past few updates for Overwatch 2 has illustrated to be an effort to regain the mass audience that the series did harbor for years. In 2023, the arrival of its Invasion Mode offered a new experience featuring story missions & John Cena in the full game. Additionally, Blizzard Entertainment spliced its DNA with World of Warcraft & Overwatch 2 featuring a themed event for the game as well this past fall.

This past November also tugged on the nostalgic strings of its players when the Overwatch 2 team shipped ‘Overwatch Classic’. The limited-time mode returns the original 6v6 game mode with original maps and the initial cast of heroes that were launched for Overwatch back in 2018. And now with Season 15 officially here for Overwatch 2, Blizzard Entertainment is planning to full capitalize on that moving forward.

In its recent ‘Overwatch 2 Spotlight’, Blizzard Entertainment announces the official return of 6v6 for the title and as well as re-introducing loot boxes to Overwatch once again. You can watch the presentation in the video below:

“One of the biggest ways the team has been exploring new ways to play Overwatch 2 is through 6v6 tests. This is something players have been asking about since we launched Overwatch 2 with 5v5 […] We want to find the absolute best way to make 6v6 with those concerns in mind. […] We’re pleased to announce 6v6 is getting its own competitive queue,” senior game producer Kenny Hudson says.

“Season 15 also features the return of loot boxes. You will be able to earn a variety of cosmetics when collecting loot boxes. They will be available from weekly and event rewards, as well as earning 1 Legendary Loot box in the Free Battle Pass, and an additional 2 Legendary Loot boxes in the Premium Battle Pass. When opening loot boxes, we want to be transparent in your chances of getting various types of cosmetics.

“In addition to the below drop rates, to ensure you always have a chance to receive some truly great items, we are guaranteeing that a Rare or better item will drop in every single box, with an Epic item within five consecutive boxes and a Legendary item within twenty consecutive boxes.” Season 15 also features a new perk system that offer unique play styles to each hero.
