Over the course of the past year, Square Enix is pumping out more content for the NieR universe. Following the critically acclaimed NieR Automata from PlatinumGames, the Japanese publisher decided to return to its roots with NieR: Replicant with a complete remaster of the original entry just a decade later.
In our review, critic Michael Merchant expressed NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 “was certainly worth the time and effort it took to achieve it. I honestly can’t recommend NieR Replicant enough!” Additionally, NieR is expanding into mobile with NieR Reincarnation opening its doors with pre-registration in the west last year as well.
From an announcement back in late February, Square Enix revealed NieR Automata is receiving a TV anime with 2B starring in the new adaptation. You can watch the teaser trailer in the video below:
“’NieR: Automata’ is an action RPG produced by Square Enix and developed by Platinum Games. The stage is a far future where humanity is defeated by the moon in front of the overwhelming force of “mechanical life forms” that aliens carry out. ‘2B’ belonging to the newly organized Android unit ‘Jorha’ will throw himself into a fierce battle to recapture the earth,” a translation from the news post reveals.
As for certainty into the next NieR project underway, it is unsure if there will be a new title so soon. In that, it was reported that NieR game director Yoko Taro is collaborating with Square Enix to craft a new IP as producer. You can read the full report by heading here.
