For what the new console hardware is set to deliver, many users are ready for fresh experiences from both Xbox & PlayStation. Of course, first-party releases that push the standard of the medium is expected, a new niché is also anticipated for the current-generation consoles as well, In that, aspects such as a standard for 4K resolution, HDR, and 60/120 refresh rate is now the forefront for the new titles underway.

So far, both systems prove to be capable of meeting these benchmarks for its consumers. However, a report from Eurogamer discloses that Xbox Series X continues to lead in this area – specifically for 120 frames per second. Atop of that, FPS Boost is also a unique feature to Xbox Series consoles which illustrates to be a direct ambition for Microsoft to continue pursuing.

In an announcement from Xbox Wire, 120Hz support for Overwatch is on the way to Xbox Series X|S. Already, the game has enhancements for both Xbox Series & PlayStation 5, but, it does not invoke this performance improvement for the game. You can watch the gameplay trailer in the video below:

“Playing Overwatch on next-generation hardware like Xbox Series X|S allows the game to look better, run smoother, and load faster,” Overwatch Lead Engine Programmer Phil Teschner writes. “We’re excited to utilize the 120Hz and variable-refresh rate modes that Microsoft brought with the Xbox Series X|S hardware.

“The enhancements that come with Xbox Series X|S allows players to run the game at higher levels of graphical quality, giving console players the ability to enable visual features that were previously reserved for higher-end PC hardware, which is very exciting for our community. In addition to running smoother, the new hardware allows for Auto HDR which looks and plays great for Overwatch.”

So far, this is the first highlight from Microsoft in terms of more 120 frames per second support on Xbox Series X|S. While there is already 90+ titles supported on the platform for FPS Boost, the Xbox firm remains silent on new additions. The latest happens to be for Dark Souls 3 which took place back in July.
