Rockstar Games reportedly has a marketing deal with PlayStation 5 for the release of Grand Theft Auto VI this year. It was revealed in an interview between Bloomberg and Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive.
The marketing deal between PlayStation and GTA was revealed after the question was asking about Grand Theft Auto VI not coming to PC right away.
“Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core,” Zelnick said. “Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn’t there, if they’re not served first and best, you kind of don’t hit your other consumers.”
Zelnick also shared that the console exclusivity is not related to the company’s marketing deal with PlayStation. “I mean, historically Rockstar’s gone to console first.”
At launch, Grand Theft Auto 6 will only be available for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. As usual, Rockstar Games won’t release the next GTA on PC for at least another year or less if we go by their history. They waited to release GTA 5 on PC after it launched for consoles in 2013.
It’s not shocking to see Sony get the marketing rights for GTA 6 since they also have the PS5 Pro, which the game will probably take advantage of.
Grand Theft Auto VI will release on November 19, 2026, with marketing expected to begin this Summer.
