Remedy Entertainment Finds New CEO Shortly After Profit Warnings On Weak Sales For Its Live-Service Release

Earlier this summer, players were greeted by Remedy Entertainment’s first multiplayer release – FBC: Firebreak. In our review for the game, Rectify Gaming scored it a 6.5/10, saying “Remedy’s trademark creativity flickers in the margins of FBC: Firebreak but never truly takes center stage. […] There are flashes of fun, but the team needs to put in a lot more work if they want Firebreak to leave a lasting impression down the road.”

In the follow-up to FBC: Firebreak releasing, it was reported that the game was met with over 1 million players in its first week of arriving. However, there was a swift downfall for the game later on. By August, it was reported that the PC release for FBC: Firebreak did not meet expectations for Remedy Entertainment. And it is unsure if things will change even with the first major update already out for the live-service title.

Now recently, it was revealed by Remedy Entertainment in its Q3 financial figures that FBC: Firebreak has now issued profit warnings following the performance of the game. “Due to weak sales of FBC: Firebreak, Remedy lowers its long-term sales forecast for the game,” the filing reads. Due to the adjusted long-term sales forecast for FBC: Firebreak and the impairment, Remedy Entertainment Plc issues a profit warning and adjusts its 2025 outlook by lowering its guidance on operating profit (EBIT).”

Subsequently, Remedy Entertainment has since then found a new CEO for the firm. T former standing Tero Virtala is to be replaced by Markus Mäki. “I want to thank Tero Virtala for his substantial contribution to the management of Remedy since 2016. I personally thank Tero for good cooperation and wish him all the best for the future,” Mäki said in a statement on the decision.

“Mäki is one of the founders of the company. He has been a member of the Board since 1995 and acted as the Chairman of the Board until his appointment. In addition, he is a member of the company’s core management team responsible for production,” the press release says. “Following his appointment, Mäki will step down from his role as the Chairman of the Board and continue as an ordinary member of the Board. The Board has elected Henri Österlund, who has been member of Remedy’s Board since 2017, as the new Chairman of the Board.”
