With the project’s announcement dating before the pandemic in 2020, many were afraid about if Netflix will deliver on its Devil May Cry show. It was not until 2021 that showrunner Adi Shakar announced new information on the animated series. He revealed that despite the wait, the runtime will span across 8 episodes. Of course, this was decided unaware if the same trajectory for the series would be met similar to Shakar’s Castlevania.

Earlier this spring, Devil May Cry officially arrived to Netflix. And to many’s belief, it was met with a similar response as Shakar’s previous work on animated work for video games at Netflix. Enough so that a second season has already been greenlit. Thankfully, Shakar expressed the wait will not be as long as the first season. “More Devil May Cry is coming soon.”

Now with a few month since the animated show arrived to Netflix, Capcom has come out to speak on the impression it left on the franchise. During its Q1 FY2025 financial results, Capcom disclosed that the series did leave a fairly big impression on recent sales for the series. “Devil May Cry 5 achieved cumulative worldwide sales of 10 million units driven by synergies with the newly released anime series.”

As of June 2025, franchise sales grew 3 million from 33 million to 36 million, Capcom discloses. Impressively, Devil May Cry V sold nearly 2 million copies in the past quarter alone which surged franchise sales to over 10 million. Other titles like Devil May Cry HD Collection & Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition sold 500,000 units roughly.

Alongside further working on Devil May Cry, Shakar already announced his next plan for his work on video game adaptations. In June, it was revealed that he acquired the rights to produce a new Duke Nukem project. You can read the full report by heading here.
