To Guerrilla Games, the Horizon Zero Dawn franchise is the new center for the developer. This became evident with the previous fallout for the Killzone IP as its official domain was not re-upped for renewal. In 2022, the PlayStation Studios team shipped Horizon Forbidden West. But, that is not all on the way. At The Game Awards, expansion ‘Burning Shores’ was unveiled scheduled to ship in spring 2023.

Additionally, there is even more on the table. Not only is there a new installment in the works, the team is actively working on a separate co-op experience as well set within the same universe. Not to mention the recent plans for a Netflix series as well with Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman to helm the production as well – there is plenty on the way for the series.

According to Colin Moriarty, Horizon Zero Dawn is facing the remake treatment as well. Similar to The Last of Us Part I, the 2016 release is to also be translated for the new PlayStation 5 hardware. This story comes after a similar rumor was spun for Uncharted recently as well. However, the task would not be handled by Guerrilla Games, but another team altogether.

“We’re also assuming that [Guerrilla] is making the Horizon remake thing there, although, if that’s real, what I’ve heard is that it’s at another team,” exputer transcribed from Moriarty’s statement on the topic. The new enhanced version is mentioned to “improved lighting system (ambient occlusion, and such), overhauled textures. and better animations, with new character models to match those found in the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West.”

Moriarty does go on to state that the authenticity of the claim is certainly questionable and wouldn’t entirely back the rumor. Howbeit, he did go on to explain that due to this uncertainty on the Horizon Zero Dawn remake, he also would not disclose the team responsible for the upcoming remake either.

There could be some backing to this report though. In a previous report made back in October, MP1ST, the outlet does mention the likes of a remastering for Horizon Zero Dawn. And it also nods to the later confirmed multiplayer game underway at Guerrilla Games as well. You can read the full report by heading here.

Do you think Horizon Zero Dawn requires a remake already?
