While primarily cultivated on the PC spectrum of gaming, Facepunch Studios’ Rust is set to make its debut for consoles very soon. At least, that was originally planned for the game. However, due to complications within the development team when porting the project to other commercial platforms, the developer now faces more than it anticipated initially.

The decision has now resulted with Facepunch Studios now extending the wait time for Rust hitting Xbox One alongside PlayStation 4. But now, fans that are still waiting are told to keep their ears to the ground for first word on the console version scheduled to arrive later sometime in 2021.

As a company in 2020, a year that has brought very challenging times for many, we’ve felt very fortunate to be able to keep doing what we love. We’ve always had some remote workers but moving the entire company home to keep everyone safe has presented challenges as we’ve found new ways to work with each other in the new normal that this year had in store for us.

We’re sorry that we haven’t been able to bring you Rust on console in 2020 as planned. We know from all of the messages that you’re excited to play it and we hope that with the dawn of 2021 we can restore your trust as we edge closer to being able to share something with you.

One conception that developer Double Eleven, the team working alongside Facepunch Productions, could acquire from the extra time is potentially include a dedicated release for the next-generation Xbox & PlayStation consoles. While the notion is given that the initial plans for last-gen systems to be the only projects, more optimized hardware could help benefit the experience on the latest retail devices.

But, there is also the likely chance that Double Eleven will ultimately decide to finish its development on Rust for the planned consoles and utilize the respected backwards compatibility program for the next-gen machines. For now, the concept is only speculation as both firms will share more in the coming months.

Are you planning on getting Rust on console?

Rust is planned on coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 sometime in 2021; out now for PC.
