Another billboard title on Xbox’s platform is opening its bridges to Steam as it was revealed today that Rare’s Sea of Thieves will be releasing on the storefront in the coming future. While there is no estimated date for when fans can anticipate to pick up the game on Steam, Rare has other details to share regarding the announcement.
In the Xbox Wire post, Rare head Craig Duncan discloses that Sea of Thieves will be supporting cross-platform play between Xbox and the two PC versions as well.
We’re happy to confirm that cross play will allow Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam users to adventure together when Sea of Thieves launches on Steam, letting you assemble your perfect pirating crew, whatever their preferred platform.
Aside from Rare’s 2018 pirate explorer, several first-party entries from Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios have been shipping their games to Steam. While the respected titles are already out on PC via Windows 10, the additional migrating support to Steam is a new trend as of recently. Titles like Sunset Overdrive, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and recent release of State of Decay 2 are just some to list.
Returning back to the topic on Sea of Thieves – developer Rare has truly done a complete 180 on the property since its initial release. Following the lack luster amount of content that shipped with the base game Rare has pumped countless free updates, one including storylines, among additional gameplay changing mechanics and features.
While waiting for the title’s Steam debut, make sure you head over to Rectify Gaming’s review for Sea of Thieves where we received the game to be “fun, especially with friends!”
