Sega Announces Game Gear Micro, Each Device Carries Four Games With Planned Release For October

Last week, word broke out that Sega in preparation for the firm’s 60^th anniversary of its founding would be making an announcement to celebrate the achievement since 1960. But while there were only teases with no clear implications alongside a language barrier for the approaching announcement, rumors began to break out which might have misled what the actual announcement is.

In particular, one claim insisted that Sega would be collaborating with Microsoft to assist in marketing with the Xbox Series X in Japan. The rumor was told to be the company’s ticket back into the console market though being posed as a subsidiary for the coming console, the firm would manage the sales uniquely to Japan and would rebrand the system to the ‘Sega Series X’.

Howbeit, that does not look to be the case as Sega announced a separate system. In a new announcement, the company unveiled the Sega Game Gear Micro. Derived from the titling, the palm-sized tech follows the trend of reintroducing favored systems in miniature form. Although the firm announced a singular device, Sega will offer four colored devices with their own unique games.

Each iteration for the Sega Game Gear Micro will run for 4,980 yen ($46) or can be purchased in a four pack which includes each colored handheld running for 29,980 yen ($276). Additionally, fans of the original system will recognize the paired Big Window Micro that will ship in the larger bundle which enlarges the screen on the smaller device.

Elsewhere in a Famitsu article, and translated by @PushDustIn on Twitter, Sega initially framed the sale model for the Game Gear Micro to each have its own game and require to consumers to buy more devices to play more of its retro repertoire. Sega shared the firm expanded to three games, but later shifted to four later on. Each device also would feature one series, but Sega ultimately made each Game gear Micro a collaboration of titles.

As of reporting, the device is only planned to ship exclusively in Japan. It is undetermined as of yet if the miniature handheld will ship outside of the nation’s borders. Atop of the ongoing virus still affecting the globe, that might also hinder international sales as well.
