Originally, Square Enix’s reputation was built on the relationship it has maintained with PlayStation for decades. Despite the cordialship between both firms, the publisher has started to suffer based on its exclusive arrangement. With a net total of ¥22.1 billion lost, the firm is adamant to change its course. Since then, there has been a shift to multiplatform for the Japanese publisher.
While the company shares to be contempt with its performance on PlayStation 5 for its latest major release, plans are not to continue in this direction, it was confirmed. Square Enix has been on the record and its actions prove to be exploring more platforms with PC releases. Already, titles including Final Fantasy XVI has already release. This month, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is also meeting the same fate.
Now in a new discovery online, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is showing to be the most popular single player entry for the entire franchise. Although titles before it were a bombastic surprise to be receiving a PC port, its engagement has been tamer in comparison. But, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on SteamDB reveals to be meeting an all-time high with 40K players.
In comparison, Final Fantasy XVI is nearly half of that with just around 27,508 players. Even less is Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade where the game’s all-time peak is at 13,803 players. However, despite the overtake by Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in comparison to the others is on 50 percent of the MMO. Final Fantasy XIV Online is just over 90K on SteamDB.
And that is just the start for Square Enix’s success in its multiplatform refocus. Recently, Nate the Hate – the leaker correct about the reveal for the Nintendo Switch 2 – did share that 2025 will be the year both Final Fantasy XVI & Final Fantasy VII Remake are coming to Xbox.
