Over the last year, we have seen multiple companies raise their prices for consoles and other devices. The PlayStation 5 saw a slight increase in price due to tariffs last year. However, the story this year is AI and how it’s impacting memory shortages, which also impacts the consoles we enjoy.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, Sony Group Corp. is now considering delaying the debut of the next PlayStation console to 2028 or possibly 2029. This is according to the outlet’s sources, who are familiar with the company’s thinking.
Bloomberg has also reported that Nintendo is considering raising the price of the Switch 2 in 2026. This would all be motivated by the memory shortages that are starting to occur.
Since the release of the Switch 2, it has been speculated that the console could be seeing a price increase from its $449 price tag right now. At first, it was believed to be because of tariffs; however, AI is causing there to be shortages right now, which would be a big factor.
Sony has not commented on the reports of delaying the PlayStation 6 for almost three years, nor has Nintendo commented on increasing its console prices.
