While yes, PlayStation & Square Enix has cultivated generational-long relationships with its partnerships in the past, the current state of the pair now shows to be stepping away as multiplatform for the publisher is a priority. Already, it was confirmed to be the case back in early 2025 following the shortcoming from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s release on PlayStation 5. As a result, the entire remake trilogy for Final Fantasy VII will be completed as a mulitplatform effort.

Thus far, we saw this with Final Fantasy VII Remake which recently arrived to both Xbox & Nintendo Switch 2 in January. Even more, Square Enix is embracing the platforms; especially Nintendo’s. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi in one interview even expressed support in the Game-Key Cards for the Switch 2 as the technology behind it does carry weight which couldn’t be done with it natively on the card.

Fast-forward to this Thursday, Square Enix during the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase revealed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is to ship this summer in June 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2. You can watch the trailer in the video below:

“The fate of the planet is in players hands in the second entry in the Final Fantasy VII remake series- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Cloud Strife and his comrades escape the city of Midgar into the wide world beyond to hunt down Sephiroth, a haunting figure from Cloud’s past bent on ruling the planet. Ride Chocobos, sprint across sweeping plains, and explore a vast, expansive world with new features and encounters to be had as the story unfolds,” the Nintendo press release shares.

Atop of the Nintendo Switch 2 version being confirmed, Xbox Series X|S is also expecting Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on the same date. Currently, there is a sale live for the game on the Xbox Store which discounts the pre-order costing only $39.99 instead of $49.99. You can visit the page by heading here.
