Just yesterday, it was reported through a Square Enix-runned Q&A featuring Kingdom Hearts 3 Director Tetsuya Nomura that fans should expect a major announcement regarding the beloved franchise as soon as tomorrow, Nomura projects. It was shared in the discussion that the development team for the game series just acquired two more studios who are already at work on new experiences in the Kingdom Hearts series.
Now today, it looks that Nomura’s word happened to be true as Square Enix revealed Project Xehanort. Aside from the new domain that was launched today for the new project, we do not have much to go off from the announcement. There is an image, however, that could give some sort of implication for the dedicated fans to decipher. “Why did he become the seeker of darkness?” the banner reads.
In spirit of the announcement, Square Enix has launched a new challenge for fans to take on: guess the name of the upcoming game. You can participate by following the new Twitter account for the game, @proectxehanort, and using the #KHNameContest with your predictions. The contest will be running for the next five day until January 28th where Square Enix will pick the top 10 closest guesses who will be rewarded with an unnamed prize.
Reevaluating the announcement, the biggest concern regarding Project Xehanort is the choice of platform, mobile devices. Although smart phones have proven to be more than a gimmick for quick and effortless entertainment, it is unsure if fans will swiftly jump on their respected platform with Kingdom Hearts branded on the new title.
Do you think you’ll play Project Xehanort when we learn more about the game in the coming future?
Project Xehanort is slated to arrive in Spring 2020 for Android and iOS.
