The impression that was instilled by Jet Set Radio on Dreamcast & later on Xbox remains to show its effect more than two decades later. Already, Sega hints details on the IP remake is to make an appearance at some point in 2025. But for developer Team Reptile, it took matters into its own hands with Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. The game launched originally for Nintendo Switch & PC before arriving to Xbox & PlayStation later on.
In our review for the spiritual successor, Rectify Gaming scored it a 9/10. “Team Reptile has successfully captured the essence of both classic and contemporary gaming with Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. Its immaculate blend of stylish visuals, rhythm-infused movement, and electrifying soundtrack make it a must play for anyone who appreciates a game that marches to the beat of its own drum.”
Now this week, Team Reptile has returned announcing another title in the same vein is coming in the form of Hyperfunk. You can watch the teaser trailer in the video below:
“Hyperfunk is an extreme trick and graffiti game from a bright future. Society is shaped by the effects of the Hyper, the online space, as various graffiti crews compete in reality with style and ideology of how to interpret this new world. Follow the story of a crew called MACH10. Use your skates, skateboard or BMX to do tricks that fuel your personal boostpack,” the synopsis reads.
From the YouTube description, the music for Hyperfunk includes ‘Sch Amo’ from Dj Zapy & Dj Uragun. What is a bigger question is if composer Hideki Naganuma will return for this new project. He originally composed the OST for Jet Set Radio before collaborating for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. On X, he did recently tweet “thanks to Team Reptile”, which could be a send off on its partnership. Nothing has been confirmed as of writing.
