Fans of the nostalgic Ape Escape series were surely in for a treat this year when Sony Interactive Entertainment Asia Japan teased that more were to be underway for something related to the series in the later parts of 2020. While the firm kept it minimal as for what was under way for the most part, there were implications of a celebratory 20th anniversary game that many fans grew hopeful to see be revealed.
At the start of 2020, the official Twitter account shared that “lots of information” for this unannounced project would be disclosed later on which only swelled the excitement for followers itching for a new installment.
The last entry for Ape Escape – mainline entry – was back in Ape Escape 3 back in 2005 for the PlayStation 2. There were countless spin-of releases since then – the latest in that perspective being PlayStation Move Ape Escape back in 2010 which launched uniquely for the PlayStation 3.
Now in a new tweet this week, the page shares to be closing operations – including the aforementioned, unnamed Ape Escape project as well from what can be gathered.
“Piposal (I enjoyed my 20th anniversary… I was really happy to see everyone after a long time, but it seems like it’s time to leave (monkey)),” the tweet reads from a online-generated translator.
Unfortunate as it may seem, hopefully something more will unravel for the series later on since fans are still left empty handed as of writing. In the meantime, fans could look to other material to fill that void. In a recent interview, Young Horses Co-founder Phil Tibitoski shared that one major inspiration for the studio’s approaching release of Bugsna spruced from Ape Escape and games of the like.
