While leaks are always exciting, especially when they share game details rather than just release or reveal dates, it’s always highly encouraged to take all leaks with the proverbial grain of salt.  With that in mind, here’s what we learned today.
Prior to today, we knew very little about the next entry in the Call of Duty franchise except that, apparently, Activision would be taking the game back to its roots.  The Call of Duty franchise began in World War II and, if today’s leaks are to be believed, this year’s release may bring players back to the coast of Normandy on June 6, 1944 with Call of Duty: WWII.  The images first surfaced in a YouTube video from user TheFamilyVideoGamers and on Reddit from user LackingAGoodName, both sharing the same five images.  Two appear to be photos of posters, while the remaining four appear to be steelbook game case design renders.  We’ll embed them below, as well as link to the sources at the end of the article. The Call of Duty WWII logo is shown on every image, and placed where it likely would be if these images prove to be of real material.  LackingAGoodName writes on Reddit, saying “We’re still in the process of verifying this leak, however so far everything checks out.”  The post continues, noting the past credibility of the leaker, who reportedly also was behind the Reddit username InfiniteWarfareLeaks and handed fans some of the leaks later taken down by Activision, according to LackingAGoodName.
From the images, the poster shots look the most legitimate, with the steelbook art being extremely early, considering we haven’t even seen the game’s official announcement, let alone a retail launch date.  The highly-realistic images used throughout hopefully mean that, coming from the space-age futurism of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Activision and Sledgehammer will be grounding the upcoming game firmly in a period-accurate reality.
As we mentioned before, all we can do currently is inspect and speculate based on the images we have so far.  We can’t confirm anything, but when we can, or if we learn more before any official announcements are made, we’ll be sure to share it and keep you updated.  Until then, stay tuned to Rectify Gaming for the latest.
