Just this week, Valve unloaded a payload of new hardware on the way. First, the Steam Controller was revealed: a universal peripheral that can be used on PC as well as the impending machines it is making. Pair that with the likes of the Steam Machine – a new take on living room gaming with your Steam library at your disposal and power six times of the portable Steam Deck.
Additionally, Valve also revealed the Steam Frame which goes a step further of the Valve Index that offers VR & non-VR experiences in one device. With three new SKUs to release in 2026, support is a priority in this new cultivated ecosystem. Efforts like more investment into its Verified Program, key focus on distribution as well, and also ending production on its prior VR headset to make way for the new devices.
And with plenty to look forward to, there are already themed items that are also on the way as well. Similar to how Nintendo Switch 2 fans received the Piranha Plant camera earlier this summer from HORI, Dbrand is offering its own specialized device that fits the platform more than perfectly. Visiting the ‘Limited Edition’ page on its website reveals a Portal companion cube.
But rather than a standard prop from the Valve franchise, the companion cube is a fully functioning Steam Machine. Given the dimensions illustrated in the single image provided, this appears to be a full fledged console rather than a simple skin to dress the hardware in. However, there is no details on the current pricing on the Steam Machine; let alone what this limited edition system will cost you.
Although Portal is a namesake brand for Valve, the series did receive a new entry, sorta. Back in 2022 with the release of the Steam Deck, Valve launched a new title ‘Aperture Desk Job’ which offered a fulfilling experience intended for portable play. You can read the full report by heading here.
