Over the course of a few weeks, Valve has unloaded a full magazine on its consumers with its future hardware plans. In total, there are three new SKUs releasing in 2026: Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller. And with the overall Steam platform in mind for this new ecosystem on the way, your entire library carries between these devices.
Following the release of this new hardware campaign, Valve has addressed that more attention to detail behind the scenes in also underway. This includes a better Verification Program & improved consumer distribution for the new SKUs. Alongside what is happening via first-party, there is also a major item on the way via DBrand. The company announced a Companion Cube-themed Steam Machine is also in the works as well.
What has yet to be discussed about these items is the pricing. And with how soon the release is for the hardware, it is surprising no details have been shared yet. When speaking to SkillUp in a recent interview, Valve sheds that its plans are to align pricing to the current PC market. You can watch the segment in the video below:
“I think that if you build a PC from parts and get basically the same level of performance, that’s the general price window that we aim at. Ideally, we’d be pretty competitive with that and have a pretty good deal, but we’re working on refining that as we speak,” programmer Pierre-Loup Graffais said. “And right now is just a hard time to have a, you know, really good idea of what the price is going to be because there’s a lot of different [external] things [to consider].”
And although there is no concrete understanding on what this system will cost just yet, some pillars in the tech community have chimed in on some possibilities. Linus Tech Tips has projected the pricing to likely be somewhere over $600 thanks to the components as well as what the machine is capable of delivering. You can watch the segment by heading here.
