We have treaded the half year mark for Gears 5 just a few months prior, but despite the game lingering in the background, developer The Coalition has continued to bring a new and refreshing experience to the September-released title. Among the time that the game has out, the largest reveal happened to be studio founder Rod Fergusson, who shared to be departing from his role as studio head for a new journey at Blizzard Entertainment.
In anticipation for his new position at the Activision-owned studio, Fergusson would now be helming development for Diablo IV. It was reported from a finding on LinkedIn last month that Mike Crump, who has worked alongside Fergusson at Black Tusk Studios before being acquired by Microsoft, to now be filling the shoes with the former studio lead now gone.
And just one month later now, The Coalition has primed an overflow of content and new additions to the action-shooter this week. In the newest updated dubbed ‘Operation 4: Brothers in Arms’ players can find a slew of new things that gives Gears 5 a new fresh coat of paint.
Firstly, Gears 5 players can find Ranked matchmaking to be completely redone from the ground up allowing players to progress with ease solely based on their performance. Even more, players will learn that how they contribute to the game will decide where exactly they stand for their global ranking when online.
Your rank is now determined by Gears Points (GP); the more you have the higher your Rank. Players earn GP for winning and based on your personal performance. Every match costs GP to compete, so – the higher your tier the more it costs to enter.
Elaborating more on the new matchmaking for Gears 5, players can soon discover they are earning Gears Coins each match. This new in-game currency can be awarded through any means when playing online and gives players a whole new reason to grind. With the new source of income, players have the ability to unlock “nearly every item in the store”, this excluding unique event items and special edition cosmetics.
And of course, this wouldn’t be a multiplayer game update with new playable characters and maps to go along with this content care package. In total, there are nine new additions divided between both new controllable personas and competitive vistas:
Characters
- Dominic Santiago
- Garron Paduk
- Junn-bot
- Locust Grenadier
- UIR Soldier
- Zamil Karn
Maps
- Blood Drive
- Checkout
- Reactor
The Coalition confirms that weekly events for Escape are also guaranteed to be present throughout the course of Operation 4. Even more, players who will decide to return to Sera for this new update can also expect to be greeted with two dozen new achievements to unlock when playing.
